Senior Legal Manager
Job Description:
Role Summary The Senior Legal Manager – Real Estate will oversee all legal matters related to property and land, including documentation, litigation, land acquisition, title due diligence, and coordination with courts and government authorities. The role requires strong expertise in property and real estate laws, court procedures, land records, and regulatory compliances, along with leadership and advisory capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Property & Real Estate Legal Matters • Conduct complete legal due diligence for real estate transactions. • Review and advise on title clearance, ownership, encumbrances, and risks. • Prepare, review, and independently generate Title Search Reports / Title Reports. • Provide clear legal opinions on property-related matters to management.
- Deed Drafting & Documentation • Draft, vet, and review: o Sale Deeds o Lease Deeds o Gift Deeds o Development Agreements o MOUs and related property documents • Ensure documentation complies with applicable laws and mitigates legal risk.
- Litigation Management • Handle and monitor litigation before: o Alipore Court o District Courts o Calcutta High Court • Manage property-related civil litigation including: o Partition suits o Title disputes o Injunction matters • Draft and review plaints, written statements, petitions, and other pleadings. • Coordinate with external advocates and track case progress and outcomes. • Possess working knowledge of Criminal Law and Criminal Proceedings relevant to property disputes.
- Court & Government Liaison • Regularly liaise with: o Courts o Land offices o Government and local authorities • Handle local authority matters including: o Kormachari / Kormach (local-level interventions) o Ground-level administrative coordination
- Land Acquisition & Records • Manage land acquisition cases, including Thika Tenancy matters. • Oversee land valuation processes. • Handle land record procedures such as: o Mutation o LRTT o Other land-record-related compliances • Coordinate with government departments such as BLRO, DLRO, and similar authorities.
- Compliance & Legal Advisory • Ensure compliance with applicable property, land, and real estate laws. • Support senior management in: o Legal risk assessment o Strategic legal decision-making • Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal documentation and records.
Required Skills & Competencies • Strong knowledge of Property Law and Real Estate Regulations. • Proven experience in District Court and High Court litigation. • Expertise in deed drafting, title verification, and land documentation. • Hands-on experience dealing with government and land authorities (BLRO, DLRO, etc.). • Thika Tenancy knowledge (preferred). • Criminal Law exposure related to property matters. • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills. • Ability to manage teams and external legal counsel. • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail. Additional Requirements / Clarifications • Bar License: Mandatory • Candidate should clearly specify courts they have handled matters in.
