Lead Mechanical Engineer / Manager - EPC Projects & Green Hydrogen Systems Department: Engineering & Projects Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat Reports To: Head - Engineering / Project Director Experience: 8+ years in Mechanical Engineering for EPC Projects (preferably in Hydrogen, Chemical, O&G or Renewable sectors) Salary: 14-18 Lacs Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer/Manager to oversee the engineering, execution, and manufacturing review of Green Hydrogen Alkaline Systems from concept to commissioning. The candidate will provide expert mechanical inputs from bid stage to commissioning, and support Detail Engineering, O&M (Operations & Maintenance) activities post commissioning. This role involves working on multidisciplinary EPC projects with close coordination between design, procurement, vendors, and site execution teams. Key Responsibilities: A. Bid and Proposal Stage Provide mechanical engineering inputs during pre-bid and bidding phases of Green Hydrogen and associated EPC projects. Review and finalize mechanical BOQs, equipment sizing, layout concepts, and technical documentation for proposals. Conduct feasibility analysis, cost estimation, and risk identification during the proposal development stage. Coordinate with the proposal, BD, and process teams to align mechanical scope with project deliverables. B. Engineering Design Lead the mechanical design of electrolyser systems and balance of plant (BoP) including gas handling, piping, skids, tanks, Pressure vessels, compressors, dryers, heat exchangers, chillers, pumps, fabrication drawings etc
Develop and review P&IDs, GA drawings, 3D models, piping layouts, support drawings, datasheets and equipment specs. Ensure all mechanical systems meet relevant codes and standards (ASME, IS, API, PED, TEMA, ISO 22734 etc.). Oversee stress analysis, pipe thickness calculations, and pressure part design. Ensure adequate provisions for safety, maintainability, and operability in the design. Interface with process, electrical, instrumentation, and civil teams to align mechanical scope. C. Procurement & Vendor Management Prepare and review technical specifications, datasheets, and tender documents for mechanical equipment. Participate in vendor selection, techno-commercial evaluations, and finalization. Review and approve vendor drawings, QAPs, and manufacturing plans. Conduct vendor shop visits, inspections, and FATs to ensure quality and conformity. D. Manufacturing Review Oversee and guide equipment manufacturing and fabrication activities for electrolyser and mechanical systems. Review and approve welding procedures, NDT plans, hydrotest protocols, and fabrication workflows. Ensure timely manufacturing and delivery in alignment with project schedules. Coordinate with QA/QC and project teams for issue resolution and compliance. E. Site Execution & Commissioning • Provide technical support during mechanical erection, pre-commissioning, and commissioning stages. Lead the mechanical commissioning, flushing, testing, and performance validation of electrolyser and BoP systems. Support installation of pipelines, compressors, dryers, storage tanks, and cooling water systems. Ensure HSE compliance and adherence to quality protocols at site.
F. Operations Support Provide handover support to 0&M teams including documentation, O&M manuals, troubleshooting guidance, and training. Participate in root cause analysis, performance monitoring, and optimization activities. Suggest improvements for reliability, availability, and maintenance practices of mechanical systems. Required Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of mechanical systems in process/chemical/H2 plants. • Proven experience in EPC project execution from engineering to commissioning. Proficient in piping, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, skids, and structural design. Familiarity with standards: ASME, API, TEMA, IS, PED, BIS, OISD. Experience in 3D modeling (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDMS, E3D, or similar). Knowledge of fabrication, inspection, and welding practices. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to coordinate across multiple teams and vendors. Excellent documentation, reporting, and presentation skills. Education & Qualifications: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Master's degree preferred) Certifications in pressure vessel design, welding inspection, or piping engineering will be an added advantage. Preferred Experience: Reg. office: Experience in Green Hydrogen, Electrolyser Projects, O&G or Renewable EPC is strongly preferred. Exposure to Alkaline or PEM electrolyser systems is a plus
