Job Description:
ABOUT THE ROLE:
You'll own backend features end-to-end on a live marketplace—listings, orders, payments, payouts, and the integrations that hold them together. It's the kind of surface area where correctness genuinely matters: a mis-settled payout or a double-charged buyer is a real problem for a real person.
Our backend runs on Laravel [version] with MySQL, deployed on [AWS / DigitalOcean / etc.], with [Blade + jQuery / Vue SPA] on the front end. Queues and scheduled jobs drive order events, notifications, and third-party syncs.
You'll work directly with the frontend, QA, and product teams, and you'll ship to production regularly.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Build and maintain backend features and REST APIs for our web and mobile clients
• Own assigned modules end-to-end — requirements, build, testing, deployment, and production support
• Design MySQL schemas and write efficient queries against growing data
• Work with Laravel queues, jobs, and schedulers for asynchronous and background processing
• Integrate third-party services: payment gateways, messaging/notification providers, and logistics partners
• Debug production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and ship durable fixes
• Participate in code reviews and help raise the quality bar on the team
• [Write and maintain automated tests using Pest/PHPUnit]
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
• 2–4 years of hands-on PHP and Laravel experience (mandatory)
• Solid working knowledge of core Laravel: Eloquent and relationships, middleware, request validation, auth, migrations, routing
• Strong MySQL fundamentals — schema design, joins, aggregation, indexing, and query optimization
• Practical experience designing and consuming REST APIs, including auth, validation, and error handling
• Experience integrating third-party APIs in production
• Working knowledge of Laravel queues, jobs, schedulers, and caching
• Comfortable with Git and standard branching workflows
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Clear written and verbal communication
NICE TO HAVE:
• Experience with Vue.js, React, or Next.js
• Comfort with Linux servers, environment configuration, deployments, and reading application logs
• eCommerce or marketplace experience, particularly payments or order lifecycle
• Familiarity with Agile workflows and tools like Postman
WHY JOIN US:
• Small team, high ownership — your work ships and is used by real customers within days, not quarters
• Genuinely interesting problems: marketplace trust, payment and settlement flows, returns, and abuse prevention
• A product with a purpose — every transaction keeps something usable out of a landfill
• Direct access to founders and room to grow with the company
