Job Summary:

The Workshop / Shop Floor Cum Production engineer will be responsible for managing end-to-end production operations and shop floor activities in a metal fabrication manufacturing unit. The role includes production planning, manpower management, fabrication process supervision, quality control, machine utilization, safety compliance, productivity improvement, and timely execution of production schedules to meet customer delivery commitments.

The candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of metal fabrication processes, production control, workforce handling, and continuous improvement practices.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Production Planning & Control
  • Plan and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.
  • Ensure production targets are achieved within specified timelines.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Stores, Purchase, Quality, and Maintenance departments for uninterrupted production flow.
  • Monitor production output, bottlenecks, and process delays.
  • Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines, and raw materials.
  • Prepare production MIS, output reports, rejection reports, and dispatch status reports.
  1. Shop Floor Operations Management
  • Supervise complete shop floor activities including:
    • Cutting
    • Shearing
    • Bending
    • Punching
    • Welding
    • Grinding
    • Fabrication
    • Assembly
    • Finishing
  • Monitor workflow and ensure smooth movement of materials between processes.
  • Ensure adherence to production plans, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Conduct production meetings and shift handover reviews.
  • Resolve operational issues affecting production efficiency.
  1. Manpower & Workforce Management
  • Supervise production supervisors, welders, fitters, machine operators, fabricators, helpers, and contract workers.
  • Ensure proper deployment of manpower based on production priorities.
  • Monitor attendance, discipline, productivity, and shift management.
  • Identify skill gaps and coordinate training for workers.
  • Maintain healthy industrial relations and shop floor discipline.
  1. Quality Assurance & Control
  • Ensure products are manufactured as per engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC department for stage inspections and final inspections.
  • Reduce rejection, rework, and process defects.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions for recurring quality issues.
  • Ensure traceability and proper production documentation.
  1. Machine & Equipment Management
  • Monitor machine performance, uptime, and utilization efficiency.
  • Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
  • Ensure proper usage and maintenance of fabrication machines, welding equipment, tools, and fixtures.
  • Minimize machine downtime and production interruptions.
  1. Productivity Improvement & Process Optimization
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Improve production efficiency, cycle time, and workflow management.
  • Reduce wastage, scrap generation, and idle time.
  • Implement process improvements to increase output and reduce production cost.
  1. Safety, Health & Compliance
  • Ensure strict adherence to factory safety norms and PPE compliance.
  • Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions.
  • Ensure safe operation of fabrication machinery and handling of gases/materials.
  • Coordinate with EHS team for accident prevention and corrective measures.
  • Maintain compliance with factory and statutory safety regulations.
  1. Material & Inventory Coordination
  • Coordinate with Stores department for timely availability of raw materials and consumables.
  • Monitor material consumption and control wastage.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Verify material requisitions and stock utilization.
